Congratulations to Mr Tony Hanning for becoming a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM), for services to education and the community.
This prestigious honour comes after a lifetime of recognised service which includes International Director and Ambassador of Goodwill to the Lions Club International , Papal Knight of the Order of St Gregory the Great KSG and Regional Manager of Camp Quality.
Tony contributed his many talents to his employment in the Dunedin Diocese Catholic Education Office for nearly 30 years, until 2019 , when he retired as the Director of the Catholic Education Office . Sincere congratulations and blessings to Tony and his family for this well deserved recognition of dedicated service.
A Dunedin City parishes Safeguarding Workshop will be held on Saturday 17th June at St Francis Xavier in Mornington from 1- 2:30pm. Nau mai haere mai.
Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop
1898 - 2023
The 125th Anniversary Celebration of the arrival of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her Sisters of St. Joseph to Port Chalmers was held on the Feast Day of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, 19th March 2023, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Port Chalmers. The cutting of the 125th Anniversary Cake was followed by a high afternoon tea, held in the Convent (Newport House) built in 1906 for the Sisters. Read more about the celebrations here.
NZCBC Leadership changes
Bishop of Auckland Stephen Lowe (at right in photo) is now President of the NZ Catholic Bishops Conference, the national body for the bishops of Aotearoa New Zealand. Bishop of Dunedin Michael Dooley (left) is now the Vice President of the NZCBC. Read more here
