Parish Consulation Discussion Guide
Following discussions at the Priests’ Council, the Diocesan Pastoral Council, and the Diocesan Finance Committee, a Diocesan Consultation discussion guide has been prepared for these discussions to happen in a synodal way. Some parishes have already begun these conversations. For those that have not yet had the opportunity, the guide will be available in your parish early in the New Year and on the diocesan website soon.
The guide is intended, first and foremost, to embed synodal reflection into the way our parishes live and operate.
We invite all parishes to begin by spending time in synodal reflection around the question:
“What sort of parish are we called to be?”
Your responses to this question will help guide both your parish priest and your Parish Pastoral Council.
Secondly, for parishes that are part of a pastoral area, we invite you to consider the possibility of formally becoming a single parish entity. The discussion guide outlines the rationale for this proposal. While such a change would have little impact on the day-to-day life of our communities, it would help ensure that both our diocese and our parishes are less focused on administrative matters and more focused on the pastoral mission of the Church.
Online Prayer and Faith Resources
Faith Journey - A New Zealand based collection of resources offered to you as an opportunity, every month or so, to spend time as an individual or a family making connections with God, and each other in a home setting. Growing in faith and deepening and discovering our relationship with Jesus is a vital aspect of belonging to the Catholic Church family.
NZPray2Day - Aotearoa Catholic Church designed app to support people, young and old, to enter into the richness of the ancient Christian cycle of seasons, saints and readings. It takes ‘snapshots’ and encourages the user to reflect, pray and respond. It also brings in pieces of history to link this liturgical journey with aspects of the story of New Zealand.
Catholic Discovery - Catholic Discovery is the digital arm of the Catholic Enquiry Centre (New Zealand). The Catholic Enquiry Centre is an agency of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops' Conference. Our primary mission is to light a pathway to Christ through evangelisation and by supporting individuals as they journey towards faith. For over sixty years, we have been the first point of contact for people seeking information about the Catholic faith in Aotearoa New Zealand. Everyone is welcome in the Catholic Church. If you are a newcomer, a recent convert, or you are a Catholic who has lost their way and would like to come home, I pray that you find what you are looking for here.
Pray As You Go - a 10-12 minute daily prayer session from the English Jesuits, that combines music, scripture and some questions for personal reflection. A new prayer session is produced every day of the working week and one session for the weekend.
